Pygmy seahorses

This week we have been learning about pygmy seahorses. We watched a video about them then we drawed one in our writing books. After we drawed them we labelled some facts around the seahorse.

Here is mine:

If it’s too blurry for you, it says:

They change color with their environment

Live 80 feet underwater

Lives in fancoral

Smaller than a paperclip

Male gives birth

Lives on the same coral their whole life.

After we finished that we wrote a paragraph about them with all the things we learnt.

This is what mine said:

Pygmy seahorses are amazing creatures that live 80 feet below the surface.

They change color according to their environment. For example if you put an orange coral behind the seahorse it changes color!

The seahorses live in fancoral.

They are smaller than a paperclip!

Pygmy seahorses grow warts on their skin to add more texture so they look like fancoral.

They live on the same coral for their whole life!

What do you think?

Do you like the drawing?

Is there something you have learnt about this creature? What is it?

Life Education 🦒

This week we have been so lucky to have life Education at our school. It was so much fun!

Life Ed is a thing that goes around to schools in NZ and teaches them about the parts in your body and other things. This year we learnt about Leaders and bossy bosses.

On the first day of being inside the Life Ed van we learnt mostly about leaders and what they do and then there were bossy bosses and what they do. We got a list of words then put them in the group we think they go in (the groups were leaders & Bosses). Then we got to see Harold the Giraffe (He’s a puppet) who told us a couple jokes. He has some good jokes!

On the second day of being in the van we still learnt a little bit more about leaders and bossy bosses. We got into groups of 4 and then got a piece of paper and a pencil. All we had to do was write down what a leader is… For example a leader is  Kind, Thinks of others more than themselves and is patient. Then we saw Harold again, and he gave us some more jokes.

On the third and last day in the van we moved from Leaders and bosses to looking at the parts of the brain and seeing what’s in the picture. For the Seeing what’s in the picture all we did was get into groups of 3 then we got given 6 pictures that trick your brain, because the pictures actually have 2 pictures in one. For example There was a picture of an old man then if you flip it around it was a dog holding a bone! We were seeing what we saw first, I saw the old man first.  Then we saw Harold again and he gave us even more jokes. They were funny!

What do you think?

What part do you like best? Why?

NBC’s Wet wild day! 🌊

On the 2nd of February 2024 Top Team came to our school to let us have a fun activity day. It was so much fun! Let me explain what happened so you can see how much fun it was.

First we all got put into our house groups (Pompelia, Chanel, Euphrasie and Aquinas), then we got put into groups of eight in that house. After that we went out into Rawhiti Domain to do the activities. There were 12 activities and my group started on activity number 8.

We had 10 min’s to do each activity so we had to work FAST! Everytime the bell goes off we move to the next activity and then the next and it keeps going until you’ve done all of them. You also get points from the activities.

The first activity we did was an Egg & Spoon race (The eggs were tennis balls). We had giant wooden sticks to put the egg on and there were obstacles too. That made it hard. Once you get to the end of the obstacle course you put the Ball in the bucket then run back so the next person can go. Every Tennis ball in the bucket equals 5 points.

The next activity was a tower building activity and the highest tower wins. But you are competing with another group and that makes it harder and more stressful.

The third activity was a puzzle. The first group to finish the puzzle gets 10 points.

Then we had a sponge race which was one of my favourite activities because it involves getting wet because the sponges drip. You had to fill up the sponge then pass the sponge all the way down the other side of the line then squeeze the water out.  When the timer of 10 mins goes the one with the most water wins 20 points.

We also had a bucket tower race where you put your full bucket on top of the tower then carry the tower to the other side where you tip the water from the bucket into another bucket. When the timer ends the winner has the most water in the other bucket.

Then there was a water pipe where there are holes in the pipe and what you have to do is some people cover the holes with their hands and some fill the pipe with water. The team with the most water in the pipe wins

There was another one where you make a slide then roll golf balls down the slide and into the bucket. Every golf ball in the bucket equals 5 points.

After that there was an activity called the tractor wheel. What you do is hop in a mat rolled up that looks like a tractor wheel and you roll with your group in it to the cone and then back.

Then there was Naughts and crosses, well you probably know that game, but this time it’s big and you have to run to it then put it down. First to win gets 10 points.

The last there was sack racing. First one to win gets 15 points.

That’s it!

What do you think?
